386 inches of Striped Bass Wins Cheeky Schoolie Tournament

June 30,  2012

WEST DENNIS, MA - The first annual Cheeky Schoolie Tournament was held this past Saturday on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The tournament was designed to encourage the interest and growth of saltwater fly fishing in true grassroots fashion – no engines, paddles or flippers – all fish had to be caught from shore, on the fly.

Despite the unfavorable weather forecast, every team showed up to the 6 a.m. captain’s meeting and was rewarded with clearing skies. An hour later, it was 80 degrees and sunny. You couldn’t have asked for a better day.

There was a dynamic mix of teams representing states from all over the Northeast and as far away as Montana. The fishing was hot in the morning as teams reported fish all along the Cape Cod coast. Toward the end of the day, the fishing cooled and everyone made it back in time for the 4 p.m. awards ceremony and after party at the Sand Bar in West Dennis.

Jeff Iadonisi and Seth Nickerson of Team Beulah took home the Grand Prize. Combined, they caught a total of 386 inches of striped bass and walked away with $600 cash and a beautiful striped bass oil painting by Andrea Larko. Tim Lynch and Dean Clark of Team T&D caught a total of 200 inches of striped bass to claim the $200 cash prize for second place.

Following the awards ceremony, a raffle was held and more prizes were given out to some lucky anglers. Cheeky Fly Fishing would like to thank all the sponsors, supporters, and anglers for making the first annual Cheeky Schoolie Tournament a huge success.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the 2013 Cheeky Schoolie Tournament coming next June!
